Minecraft Goes Mobile

Minecraft Goes Mobile

None

It’s no secret that Minecraft is a hit with PC gamers. However, if you still haven’t checked it out and like to take your gaming on the go, you’ll be happy to hear that Minecraft is coming to mobile platforms very soon. Though no firm release date was given, an estimated 2011 release has been attached to the mobile port.

As far as platform rollout is concerned, it looks like the Xperia Play (also known as the “PlayStation phone”) will be getting Minecraft first (possibly exclusively) and other Android phones will possibly be getting it later.

What’s so special about the Xperia Play? Button layout seems to be a factor, as the initial mobile version of the game will take advantage of the d-pad and traditional button layout for controls. Other mobile phone platforms have vastly different hardware schemes and input layouts which could inhibit a simultaneous rollout across the Android market for the game in its current form. Oh, and in case you were wondering, nothing was mentioned about the iOS platform.
