Mists Of Pandaria Gains Some Artistic Cred

None

A few weeks ago, a trademark was spotted, courtesy of Blizzard, for “Mists of Pandaria.” Given the similarities to the trademarking of Cataclysm, rumors immediately exploded that this would be the fourth expansion to aging MMO juggernaut World of Warcraft. Furthermore, given the name, and the previous appearances of the Pandaren race in Warcraft media, it was thought by some that they might be a new, playable race in this theoretical expansion. It was at about this point that doubt set in, the Pandaren decried as a joke race. (In fact, they have been used for many an April Fools prank.)

Enter art director Chris Robinson, who said, “I don’t think they’re too cutesy to be a playable race, and it certainly depends on the artistic interpretation.” He goes on to clarify that the Pandaren Express interpretation was certainly too cutesy, but, “… I can see them being cool.”

The Pandarens were last playable in the Warcraft III expansion, The Frozen Throne, so there is precedent for them as controllable characters, if slim precedent. WoW fans, keep your eyes peeled.
