The Call of Duty franchise is a record-breaking machine. First, Modern Warfare 2 smashed one day sales records by raking in $310 Million Then Black Ops topped MW2 by doing $360 Million on its first day. But now, Modern Warfare 3 is flexing its muscles. Last week, on opening day, Modern Warfare 3 sold roughly 6.5 million copies, which adds up to about $400 million in revenue for Activision. Someone should probably send a condolences card to EA. “We believe the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium, and we achieved this record with sales from only two territories,” said Bobby Kotick, Activision’s CEO. “Other than Call of Duty, there has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records three years in a row. Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise exceed worldwide theatrical box office for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings , two of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time.” ![]()
In light of all of this, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Activision has announced that yet another Call of Duty title will be coming out next year. And, while I’m sure you’re all excited to pre order the next CoD title, just relax and get ready to buy the upcoming MW3 DLC packs. Activision has plenty of ways to take your money. By Josh Engen |
