Nintendo 3DS Details Announced

None

In a Japanese press conference yesterday, Nintendo revealed some key details about the upcoming 3DS. The final design for the handheld was shown, revealing both a different analog pad and stylus pen.

Several features were announced at the press conference, including an enhanced Tag mode, which will allow users to exchange data without having the handheld on. The handheld can store and send data for multiple games at once. In addition, users will be able to create Miis by taking their photos and having the Mii creation software create an avatar for them.

The 3DS will have its own Virtual Console, which will include Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. No Virtual Console titles were announced, although the demonstration included Game Boy’s Super Mario Land and Game Boy Color’s The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX.

Capcom, however, confirmed two games it’s working on for the 3DS: Resident Evil: Mercenaries and Mega Man Legends 3.

The 3DS, which will come packaged with a 2GB SD card, is due to arrive in Japan on February 26 for 25,000 yen (about $300). A stateside release will follow sometime in March. No U.S. price has been set yet.
