Nintendo to Reveal First Mobile Game Tomorrow

Nintendo to Reveal First Mobile Game Tomorrow

Nintendo reported positive financials today; positive, but not great. On the bright side, this is the first time in five years that Nintendo has reported profits in the first half of its fiscal year, so that’s great. Net profits came in at around $74.6 million. Analysts, though, had predicted profits upwards of $120 million, so Nintendo’s profits look a bit anemic in comparison.

Part of Nintendo’s strategy moving forward is establishing a strong presence in the mobile games market. In March Nintendo announced its partnership with Japanese mobile giant DeNA. DeNA knows how to capitalize on a strong IP, as it’s proven with Final Fantasy Record Keepers , a game that’s been downloaded over 5 million times in Japan. Nintendo’s first mobile game has thus far been kept under wraps, but we’re likely to get details tomorrow when Nintendo reveals its mobile strategy to investors.

Japanese games industry analyst Serkan Toto stated in a series of tweets that we shouldn’t expect Mario or any other of the bigger IPs right out of the gate; that we’d have to wait until next year to see the big names coming to mobile, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s announced.
