Notch Teases Minecraft’s Newest Mob

Notch Teases Minecraft’s Newest Mob

None

So far, details have been pretty scarce about Minecraft’s upcoming Adventure Update, which should bring a bit of a story element to the popular sandbox game. Today, however, Minecraft creator Markus Persson, AKA Notch, let a few details slip about a brand new mob he’s been working on.

According to Notch’s blog, this new mob is “dark, it has long and narrow limbs, moves very slowly, and will pick up blocks and move them around.” That already sounds pretty intriguing, but even better is the fact that it will only attack if you look directly at it. If you aim your reticle over it, it will freeze and look at you. As soon as you look away, it will attack. Since it will attack very quicly and have the ability to teleport, this could be a very frightening experience.

Later in the blog, Notch referred to these creatures as “Endermen.” However, names of things tend to change quite often during Minecraft’s development process. The Nether, the game’s hidden underworld, is just one example of a feature that has gone through several name changes.

Of course, this mob is still in development and could change drastically before it sees a final version. But still, since Notch felt comfortable describing it in such detail in his blog, there’s a good chance we will actually see the Endermen—or whatever they will be called—in the game at some point.
