Pacific Rim 2 is turning out to be the little movie that could. It just won’t stay down, even when it appears to be knocked out. There’s no confirmed release date yet, but the film has a new director. Steven S. DeKnight will take the lead.
DeKnight hasn’t done any films yet, Pacific Rim 2 will be his first, but he has been involved with some pretty great shows in the past. He’s worked on Daredevil , Angel , Smallville , Dollhouse , and Spartacus: War of the Damned as both a writer and producer.
Don’t worry. Guillermo del Toro is still involved with Pacific Rim 2 as well. He’s acting as a producer this time around. Jon Spaihts, a writer on The Darkest Hour, Prometheus, Doctor Strange, and Passengers , is working on the script.
There have been no announcements yet concerning a release date. At one point, before things got really troubled, Pacific Rim 2 had a tentative 2017 release window.
