PAX 2011: Halo: Anniversary Edition Has Updated Maps And 3D support.

None

There have been a lot of Halo-related news stories coming out of PAX today, but a couple of the announcements have been particularly interesting.

The first, and probably most fascinating, is the addition of stereoscopic 3D support for the Halo: Anniversary edition. A Microsoft representative had this to say: “Using a custom made top-and-bottom 3D technology, 3D TV-owning fans will be able to experience the amazingly re-mastered ‘Halo: Anniversary’ in a more immersive experience than ever before.”

As a rule, I’m typically a little bit skeptical of 3D gaming in general (the Virtual Boy left a bad taste in my mouth), but adding 3D support to the anniversary edition of Halo might be the type of thing that allows players to reconnect with the original.

Also, the developer has been hard at work updating those classic maps that Halo fans have grown to love. Prisoner, Timberland, Damnation, and Beaver Creek have been reworked so far, and they’ve added a map called Installation 04. Installation was taken from the campaign, retextured, and included for all of you Combat Evolved fanatics.

Halo: Anniversary Edition should hit shelves in October. Get those 3D glasses warmed up.
