PSN And The Power Of Names

PSN And The Power Of Names

None

The US PlayStation Blog, today, posted a top twenty sales list for the month of September, chronicling the relative popularity of the service’s varied content. The results hold a few unique surprises.

First of all: Save for Resident Evil Code: Veronica, every Resident Evil title from the original up through the HD update of Resident Evil 4 makes the list. In fact, that very update is very possibly the core cause of this resurgent interest in the series. (And it should be noted that the free downloads awarded to PlayStation Plus members weren’t counted in these figures.) Furthermore, with the addition of Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition, the core storyline of the Resident Evil series is available, in its entirety, on the PSN. PS3 owners now have enough downloadable zombie-scares to last them a lifetime.

More perplexing, however, is the game that tops the list: Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. Combining the first two MK games and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 under one auspice, the downloadable title seems to have drawn fans of the series in from far and wide, in spite of scathing reviews that highlighted its abhorrent online performance and auditory inconsistencies.

A strange month for the PSN, to be sure, and proof that a name alone can hold immense power.
