Read This if you Pre-Ordered Fallout 4 on Xbox One

Xbox One owners just can’t catch a break, it seems. Ok folks, listen up. If you have an Xbox One and you pre-ordered your copy of Fallout 4 on or before October 27, you may have a problem by the time November 10 rolls around and you’re ready to play your game. Here’s the issue, and here’s how you can fix it.

When you pre-ordered you downloaded a “stub file,” which is basically a placeholder file keeping a spot on your hard drive nice, warm, and comfy until your Fallout 4 download comes along. The stub files that were downloaded on or before October 27 are faulty, and if you don’t have the “Instant On” feature enabled on your Xbox One allowing for background updates, you’ll need to delete and re-download the file in order to jump right into Fallout 4 without delay. Bethesda sounded the alarm on its forums and outlines a simple process to ensure you won’t have any problems come launch day. I’ll paste the process below:

1) Navigate to My Games & Apps.

2) Find the title’s tile in Games.

3) With the tile highlighted, press the [Menu] button on your controller.

4) Select Manage Game.

5) In the Manage Game screen, select the storage device the game is currently installed to.

6) Select Uninstall.

7) Once the game has uninstalled, return to My Games & Apps.

8) Scroll right to the “Ready to Install” section under Games.

9) Highlight the title’s tile.

10) Press [A] to select.

11) Choose Install.
