The Rumor Round-Up summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related gossip over the past week. This weekly article, in conjunction with the Week in Review, will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

Last week we brought you a bunch of news concerning a restructuring of Square Enix. The company’s president, Yoichi Wada, is looking to make the company more profitable through acquisitions and partnerships. According to a rumor started at Kotaku, Mr. Wada’s tactics aren’t stopping there.

In fact, “word has it that a fierce meeting was held over a month ago where the Square Enix honcho threatened to start axing employees.” Supposedly, Wada feels that his developers have been making games that no one but themselves wants to play. The president knows that in order for Square Enix to be more competitive abroad they need to produce games that are far more engaging to the majority of Western gamers.

According to French game site LiveWii, the new Prince of Persia game will come to the Wii in the form of a spinoff . After attending this week’s “Ubidays” media event, a reporter for the site claims that the Wii will get a console specific title. Supposedly, the Wii spinoff will take advantage of the Wii Remote, have pared down graphics, and be given its own storyline to satisfy the massive throng of Nintendo fans. Ultimately, there are no hard details provided and the site suggests we will find out more at this year’s E3 in July.

Finally, rumors surrounding Sony’s next PS3 firmware update have fleshed out a few of the details. According to various sources, ver.2.40 will sport a bunch of new and interesting features including in-game XMB messaging, a universal friends list, custom soundtracks, and YouTube uploading. Best guess on a release date: June 12, 2008 .

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
