Square Enix Looks to Expand

Square Enix Looks to Expand

None

According to comments made to Reuters by CEO Yoichi Wada, Square Enix is looking to expand their influence and ability to make games. Due to increased competition from established players, Square Enix needs to become far more agile in order to remain profitable in the future.

“Economies of scale and breadth of scope are getting important. It may be a business alliance or it may be us taking a stake in others, but we need to go beyond traditional Square Enix,” said Yoichi Wada at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in Tokyo on Tuesday.

What does this mean? Look for Square Enix to become more of a holding company. Mr. Wada is actively seeking new business opportunities and there will likely be a few major purchases and alliances in order to strengthen the company’s market position. To further back that up, Wada stated that the company can issue an additional 290 million shares to raise nearly $9.2 billion USD in venture capital to make some of these opportunities a reality.
