S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Developer Tweets Financial Woes

None

Last week, the rumor mill known as the Internet started churning out reports that GSC Game World might be planning to cancel S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and close its doors . The report was mostly cobbled together from a few tweets and industry whispers, but it’s starting to look like they may have been fairly accurate.

Yesterday, the the Ukraine-based developer sent out a tweet that read “We will do our best to continue. However, at this moment, nothing is certain.” About an hour later, they gave us a bit more information “Our website will continue, with the forum & tech support. The shop will continue until the nearest planned items sell out.”

This is depressing news, but it really shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Eurogamer recently reported that CEO Sergei Grigorovich had been pretty unhappy with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s progress and remarked that “Ukrainian law enforcement was interested in taking control of the company.”

I don’t know about you, but I’d be interested in knowing what Ukrainian law enforcement wants with a video game development company.
