Sonic Eraser Cheats & Cheat Codes for Sega Genesis and More

Sonic Eraser is a color puzzle game where players can go head-to-head in matches using Sega’s biggest mascot. Sonic Eraser was published and produced by the video legend Sega. The game was released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. Sonic Eraser introduces a brand new genre to the Sonic franchise, which usually focuses on fast-paced platformers.

Sonic Eraser was the very first Sonic-themed puzzle game in the franchise. This early Sega Genesis game proves that Sonic can be more than a speedy hedgehog battling Dr. Robotnik. Now, Sonic can be a race car driver, a fighting game character, and much more. Sonic Eraser is a refreshing new interpretation of everyone’s favorite hedgehog.

Sonic Eraser Premise

This early Sonic game is a very basic puzzle game similar to Tetris or a Match-4 game. Players compete on a grid that has falling shapes that will eventually fill up the grid and end the game. Making identical shapes touch causes them to disappear and earn the player points. The objective of Sonic Eraser is to prevent the grid from filling as long as possible by pairing shapes. Sonic Eraser has four different game modes in which players can test their skills.

  • Round Mode: This is the standard puzzle mode of Sonic Eraser, consisting of 40 stages. Each stage has a bunch of spiral ring shapes interspersed with other normal shapes. Just like the other shapes, the spirals disappear when paired. The objective is to clear them all from the playfield by eliminating the shapes between them. The time limit is three minutes for each round, but pausing the game does not stop the clock, so the player is recommended to go before starting.
  • Normal Mode: This is a standard game mode that focuses on earning as many points as possible. There is no time limit, so players can play for points as long as they like. The better the player performs, the higher the level will rise. As the player climbs the ladder, the speed at which clusters fall will increase.
  • Doubt Mode: This mode works the same as normal except white squares will never fall. Instead, a single shape from almost every cluster will turn into a white square when it hits the ground. These are called “lie blocks”.
  • Block Mode: This mode has clusters that stand on-end, being able to stack up as high as the player dares for massive chain reactions. It only takes a single pair to send the whole tower tumbling.

Sonic Eraser Main Character

Like with every Sonic game, Sonic the Hedgehog takes the starring role. Instead of racing through Green Hill Zone, Sonic is now helping players solve puzzles. In two-player mode, both players control their own Sonic that do battle with one another. When a player gets a combo of three consecutive lineups of pieces, their Sonic will attack the other one, making them lose control of their pieces.

Sonic Eraser Cheat Codes

Because Sonic Eraser is such a small game, it lacks many of the cheat codes common in the ’90s. There are no cheat codes that let players skip puzzles, get extra time, or earn more lives. The closest thing that Sonic Eraser has to a cheat code is a button command that will automatically end the round. Pressing A + C at the same time ends the round early if you get stuck on a puzzle or if you think the round is a lost cause.

Sonic Eraser Cheat Code FAQ

Does Sonic Eraser have any cheat codes?

Sonic Eraser has one cheat code that lets players end a round early without letting the grid fill up or letting the timer run out. This code is useful if players get stuck on a round with only one spiral left or if they feel like the round is a lost cause. Pressing A + C, with cause the round to end automatically.
