Sony Confirms PSN Pass

Sony Confirms PSN Pass

None

Yesterday, we reported a rumor stating that Sony was going to require an online pass to access Resistance 3’s online mode. Much in the vein of the policies that EA and THQ have instated, this pass would be required to access the game’s servers, and people who buy the game used will have to fork over extra cash just to get the pass.

An SCEA spokesperson elaborated on the new pass program: “We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities. This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title. This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”

He then went on to say that there will be more details on the PSN Pass program announced in the future, and that Resistance 3 will indeed be a part of it. So apparently “accelerating our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio” means “keeping the used game buyers off our servers.” Fair cop.
