Sony to Charge Used Game Purchasers for Online Play?

None

While publishers like EA, THQ, and Ubisoft have been hard at work trying to figure out how to dissuade the used game market, the console makers haven’t made any significant moves yet. However, according to GamesIndustry.biz, it may only be a matter of time before Sony throws their hat in the ring with their first-party titles.

In an interview, Sony’s European president Andrew House states “On the principle of making online portions of the game available or unlocked from the disc-based release for a fee, we’re broadly supportive of that.” He continues “And we’re exploring actively the same option for our own content.” Does this mean those who purchase Sony’s games in the future will have to buy new or pay an additional fee to unlock additional content or play them online? We’ll let you know if we hear anything more about the situation.
