Split/Second Developers Make Their Own Way

Split/Second Developers Make Their Own Way

None

I was certainly impressed with Split/Second when it was released last year. Unfortunately, public reception was a little bit lukewarm. Maybe there were just too many racing games released that year, but for whatever reason, Disney’s first foray into stunt-based racing didn’t exactly go over as well as they had planned. Sadly, this led to layoffs within Disney’s Black Rock Studios.

However, the news isn’t all bad. Nick Baynes, game director on Split/Second, has created a new game studio along with Ian Monaghan, who was the senior producer at Black Rock and is now stepping into the role of development director. This new studio, RoundCube Entertainment, hasn’t announced any projects, but given Split/Second’s modest success, it would be a safe assumption that whatever their debut project is, it will probably involve racing. Although they won’t be at E3 this year, hopefully next year we’ll see something from this brand new studio.
