Steam Greenlights A Quartet Of New, And Semi-New, Titles

Steam Greenlights A Quartet Of New, And Semi-New, Titles

Steam’s Greenlight program is supposed to provide an opportunity for the gamers themselves to have a say in the titles that make it onto Valve’s digital distribution platform. In particular, it’s an avenue through which Indie games can garner some hype and hopefully the attention they need to succeed and start returning their developers’ investment.

It’s odd, then, when one looks at the latest batch of Greenlit games (of which there are only four) and sees, in addition to a texturing tool (Substance Designer 3) and a “Dystopian Document Thriller” (Papers, Please), the latest game from Reverb Publishing (Edge of Space) and Venetica.

Why is Venetica so odd? Because it was a retail release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in January of 2011. It was also already released on PC at the same time. It’s quite strange that the game is now using the Greenlight program to work its way onto Steam. Isn’t Greenlight intended to be for compelling, new experiences?
