The North American PlayStation VR Pre-Order Is Pricey

The North American PlayStation VR Pre-Order Is Pricey

Oh, Sony… It’s always one step forward and two steps back with you, isn’t it? PlayStation VR had a great presence at GDC. There was a variety of demos that the press really seemed to enjoy, and Sony’s PlayStation VR presentation was a huge hit thanks to its brevity and to a really appealing price tag of three-hundred and ninety-nine US dollars. Two things happened right after that announcement: sales for PS4 cameras and Move controllers skyrocketed, and pre-orders for the PlayStation VR sold out almost immediately on Amazon UK.

I’ve been waiting to place my own pre-order here in the States. Following the GDC presentation I’ve had Amazon open in a tab that I’ve been refreshing about once every other hour. Today, I’m closing that tab. Sony has revealed the North American pre-order will be a bundle that will set you back $500 USD / $700 CAD (ouch). It comes with the camera, two Move controllers, and PlayStation VR Worlds, which is essentially a collection of VR demos. You do what you want with your money, but I’ll be waiting to snag the HMD on its own as it’s still too easy to find cheap, used cameras and Move controllers – locally as well as online.
