The Secret World Counts Down To Beta

The Secret World Counts Down To Beta

None

Funcom’s conspiracy-nut of an MMO project, The Secret World, is slated for release next April, but it won’t be possible for Funcom to make that date without some help from the community. As is standard for MMO development, today, they plan to institute a beta test, working out the kinks while giving a little back to the community that has supported them thus far.

It’s an appropriate twist, for a game about government conspiracies and eldritch horrors, that the beta sign-up process is not as simple as clicking a “yes, let me play” button. Instead, The Secret World’s website has had a countdown timer running up to today, the planned date for beta sign-ups to kick off. Earlier today, the timer ran down and, only a few hours ago, the clock shattered. The game’s Facebook page has been flooded with questions about what this means and expectant queries as to when we can expect further developments in Funcom’s beta sign-up ARG.

That’s right. Funcom is using an ARG to simultaneously promote their game and get people into its beta. Those interested should probably keep a keen eye on the game’s website and Facebook page. After all, given the nature of The Secret World, is this really a hang-up in the process or, instead, a puzzle for worthy gamers to solve?
