THQ About To Lay Off 240 People

None

The sagging economy hasn’t exactly been kind to video game developers, and unfortunately, it’s claimed a few more victims this week. This time, the California-based developer THQ is at the center of the problem. Yesterday, THQ logged an SEC filing that contained details of a “restructuring plan,” which might include as many as 240 layoffs.

The cuts will primarily affect personal from the sales, general, and administrative departments, and, according to the filing, most of the layoffs will happen within the next couple of months. “The majority of the restructuring plan is expected to be implemented by March 31, 2012, with the remainder completed by September 30, 2012,” reads the report.

Additionally, CEO Brian Farrell’s salary will be slashed in half, dropping from $718,500 to $359,250.

Obviously, this is not an ideal situation, but I’m happy with the developer’s decision to cut the CEO’s salary as well. Most of the time, these types of business decisions end up affecting only the people who can’t afford to lose their minimum wage jobs, and, even though this one is affecting a large chunk of those people, a 50% pay cut is nothing to laugh about.
