Valve’s SteamOS Available for Download

Valve’s SteamOS Available for Download

Thinking of building your own Steam Machine? Well Valve has made the software available to you. Let’s just hope that you are proficient with Linux.

SteamOS is still in beta and is currently available for download for free. The official page described it as such:

SteamOS is based on Debian GNU/Linux and is not compatible with Microsoft Windows games and applications. However, SteamOS will soon support seamlessly streaming your games from your Windows computer; watch this page for more information about the In-Home Streaming Beta.

If you want to give SteamOS a shot, here are the specs your rig will have to meet.

  • Intel or AMD 64-bit capable processor
  • 4GB or more memory
  • 500GB or larger disk
  • NVIDIA graphics card (AMD and Intel graphics support coming soon)
  • UEFI boot support
  • USB port for installation

Valve welcomes you to install SteamOS on whatever rig you like. However, they do caution against getting these files from any unofficial source, so click our official link in order to download the files yourself!
