Wii U Basic Being Pulled From GameStop Shelves

Wii U Basic Being Pulled From GameStop Shelves

Only a few short months after the console’s release, GameStop is planning to pull the Wii U basic model from store shelves. This has led many to speculate that the low end, low storage model of the Wii U may be discontinued. The units will, apparently, be pulled on June 18 th , the Tuesday following E3.

According to Kotaku, GameStop locations have been sent the following message:

Nintendo Wii U Basic Recall – Two Week Preparation

On Tuesday, 6/18, all stories will need to return all new/unopened Wii U Basic (020359).

.. Stores that have 10 or more in stock will receive shipping cartons from DC.

.. All other stores will need to save shipping cartons for this recall.

Neither Nintendo nor GameStop has commented on the matter.

The Wii U Basic currently costs $300 and includes 8 gigs of internal storage, which isn’t very large at all, especially if you are a fan of digital content. The deluxe bundle costs $350 and comes with 32GB of internal storage and Nintedoland. It’s possible that the 50 dollar discount just isn’t worth the lack of storage, contributing to poor sales of the basic unit. Or, it may be that Wii U sales are dropping overall and Nintendo would like to concentrate all of their sales on Deluxe units in order to make more money.
