Wii U’s Australian Price Raises Eyebrows

Wii U’s Australian Price Raises Eyebrows

None

During E3, Nintendo unveiled the Wii U, the company’s entry into the field of high definition gaming consoles. Potential customers were quickly assured that the system, while most likely not releasing at the low price-point of the Nintendo Wii, would be priced competitively with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Now, however, the Australian EB Games site has listed the console, which has only just been announced and will not be on shelves until sometime in 2012, for pre-order. What value does EB Games Australia assign to the console? 598 AUD. That’s close to $600 USD.

The site does admit that the price is an estimated RRP, or recommended retail price, as opposed to the much more official MSRP, or manufacturer’s suggested retail price. For those who live in the land down under, however, and want to get their names on the list as early as possible, this better-safe-than-sorry high-balling of the price could act as a powerful deterrent.
