Xbox One Leaking Fluid, Probably Not a Widespread Issue

Xbox One Leaking Fluid, Probably Not a Widespread Issue

We all know that some kids who are really bad get coal in their stocking for Christmas. My question is, exactly how bad do you have to be for your new Xbox to start leaking oil?

A select few Xbox One users have posted to the Xbox support forums regarding some type of strange fluid leaking out the sides of the next-gen console. One post describes it as “… some kind of oil… and there is these white milk like stains in the center of the vents. And by milk like, i mean if you leave a glass without rinsing it off after you drank milk and it drys on.” Other users in the same post responded stating they too have had similar issues.

This of course instantly dredges up memories of the infamous Red Ring of Death which plagued many early Xbox 360 systems (largely attributed to the rush of getting the hardware on the market). Microsoft was slow to respond in that instance, but seemingly learned their lesson this time around. When reports that some Xbox One disc drives were skipping and causing a grinding noise, support was immediately provided (and some free games were given away as compensation).

Microsoft has yet to comment on exactly what could be causing this issue, and as this is seemingly only affecting a small handful of users, we have to consider it an isolated incident at this point.

We’ll bring you more if this does became an issue for the Xbox community.
