Zelda’s New Look Explained

None

When The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was revealed at E3 this year, the look of the game caught many off guard. Looking like a mixture of the visuals found in Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker, Skyward Sword seemed like it was being aimed at satisfying both game’s fans. However, the reasoning behind the game’s graphical style has more to do with its gameplay, based on an interview between Eiji Aonuma and the Official Nintendo Magazine (via Nintendo Everything).

Aonuma stated “We thought that because we want to highlight the swordfighting combat, we have to exaggerate the features. We thought that the art style we chose was best-suited to do that. You have to match the art style to how the game plays, and we thought this worked best. We matched the artwork so that we can highlight the over-exaggeration in the gameplay.”
