MGS4 Must Sell A Million Copies… On Day One

None

Metal Gear Solid 4 is arguably the biggest exclusive that Sony currently holds for the PlayStation 3.  It is undeniable that the title is highly anticipated and that expectations are sky high for Kojima’s “last” MGS game.  However, with the admittedly high production costs for MGS4, it may be difficult for Konami to recoup their costs, especially considering that the game is a Sony exclusive.

Ryan Payton, the assistant producer of the game, told Reuters that “We’re telling our fans that if you want to play ‘Metal Gear Solid 4’, you have to buy a PS3…The PlayStation brand has always been good to us, and we’re pretty bullish on the PS3.”

However, that loyalty appears to be costing them.  Due to its production costs, Payton said that Metal Gear Solid 4 needs to sell one millions copies…on its first day.

This goal will be difficult to say the least, considering that as of October there are only 2 million PS3s sold in the U.S., although recent price shifts have increased sales dramatically.
