Anonymous Member Takes Down GoDaddy, Hosted Sites Out Too

GoDaddy.com, one of the internet’s biggest web hosts and domain registrars, is experiencing a severe outage, with a sole member of hacker collective Anonymous currently taking responsibility for the move.

Not only is the GoDaddy site itself down, but any site registered with a GoDaddy domain that uses its DNS (domain name system) records appears to be out as well. With the company reportedly managing 48 million domain names, that’s a pretty big bit of damage done.

Twitter user Anonymous Own3r, the security leader of the collective, is taking full ownership of the attack, although Anonymous as a whole has tweeted its support.

GoDaddy says that it is aware of the problems going on with the site, and that it is “working on it.” It recently announced that it is “making progress” and that “some service has already been restored.”
