Super Bomberman 2 is an action maze game developed by Produce! and published by Hudson Soft, released exclusively for the SNES back in 1994. Despite being released over a decade after the franchise initially began, it remains one of the earlier entries in the series, owing to Bomberman‘s longevity.
After its release, Super Bomberman 2 was hailed by critics for the balance in its gameplay, with some publications even naming it among the best games of all time (at the time). In Japan alone, the game went on to sell over 700,000 copies and was similarly popular worldwide. Super Bomberman 2 was a smash hit.
Super Bomberman 2 Premise

The gameplay premise of Super Bomberman 2 is pretty simple, with the core mechanics remaining similar across the course of the game. In the story mode, you’re placed into maze arenas filled with enemies and switches. The goal is to progress to the next arena, which is achieved by killing all of the enemies and flipping the switches by laying carefully placed bombs around the level. By destroying certain blocks around the level, you can gain powerups which allow for special abilities to be used, making the levels easier. The story mode features five worlds altogether, with each one ending in a boss fight against one of the Five Dastardly Bombers. Defeat these villains and the story mode is complete.
The game also features a multiplayer offering to complement the solo gameplay. Battle Mode allows up to four players to blow each other up across a variety of battle arenas, which differ from the ones found in the story mode. Whoever wins a battle is awarded the Gold Bomber, giving them a free powerup and an advantage in future matches. While the multiplayer has no story component, it does allow you to earn bragging rights over your friends. With that in mind, it’s totally worth a try.
Super Bomberman 2 Main Characters

In Super Bomberman 2, the story takes a huge back seat to the gameplay. The plot is strong enough to take the game from one set piece to another, but really, it isn’t the deepest story you’re going to find.
Because of this, the cast is extremely small, telling a black-and-white heroes vs villains story. It’s clear who the protagonist and antagonists are from the start, with no moral grey area. Here are the characters you’ll meet in Super Bomberman 2.
- Bomberman: Bomberman is the protagonist of the game. After being kidnapped by the Five Dastardly Bombers, he must bomb his way out of the space station where he is imprisoned.
- Five Dastardly Bombers: The Five Dastardly Bombers (Magnet Bomber, Golem Bomber, Pretty Bomber, Brain Bomber, Plasma Bomber) are a group of evil cyborgs who want to take over Earth. These antagonists capture Bomberman in an effort to enact their evil plan.
Super Bomberman 2 Titles in the Series

The history of the Bomberman series goes back over four decades now, with the first installment coming in 1983. After that initial release, it would be a while before we saw the character again. The series truly established its popularity through the ’90s, and seized the moment with several titles released in almost every year through that decade.
This level of popularity endured throughout the early 2000s, too. Bomberman rolled with the times, adapting to the technology provided by powerful home consoles and portable devices. This meant that there was a Bomberman game for everyone
All good things must come to an end, and Bomberman‘s popularity was no exception. The series died a death throughout the 2010s, with just two releases in 2010 and one in 2017 for the entire decade. However, it’s clear the series isn’t totally done for. The recent release of Super Bomberman R 2 on the Nintendo Switch offers some hope that there’s a lot of life in the old dog yet. If sales of the newer title are high, hopefully we will see a Bomberman resurgence throughout the 2020s.

Does Super Bomberman 2 Have Achievements?
Nope. As you can imagine, the original SNES version of the game had no achievements to speak of, and there hasn’t been a rerelease of the game on modern consoles that might add them to Super Bomberman 2.
How Do I Enter Super Bomberman 2 Passwords?
From the title screen, select the button at the bottom that says “Password.” From here, you’ll be able to enter the different level passwords that we provided above.
What is the Invincibility Cheat for Super Bomberman 2?
Unfortunately, you can’t get invincibility in Super Bomberman 2 without the use of third-party cheats. If you’re playing the game on an emulator, you need to find the Cheats menu of your chosen emulator and enter the code “7E80EF:01.” This will grant invincibility to player one in-game.
If you’re playing with other players through the emulator, you can also enter the codes “7E81EF:01,” “7E82EF:01,” and “7E83EF:01” to grant invincibility to players two, three, and four respectively.
