Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh is a 1987 action game, developed by Taito. They also developed Gunslinger Stratos, Space Invaders, Jetson games, and more. Released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and saw many a re-release on later consoles and PC. This game’s style is formed around a small platform, a ball, and a lot of colored breakable blocks. The goal for each level is to bounce the ball into each block, with each one having a different level of durability depending on which one you hit.
Unlike the previous game, this one also has a new feature. A built-in editing system allows the player to create their levels, one of the earliest iterations of level creation.
Upon release, it had a direct contrast to its predecessor, which was largely ignored by critics and customers alike. Arkanoid: revenge of Doh, or just Arkanoid II, was the third most-played arcade table on its release month. Which was July, 1987.
Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh Premise
Yes, there is a plot in this Space Invaders/Breakout-style game.
Following the events of the last game, the Doh, the titular characters, have returned. A dimension-controlling force that has taken control of the alien spaceship, the Xorg. Previously, the Doh were stopped by the Vaus 1. A spaceship created by the Mixtec, an Arkanoid-type spaceship, called the Vaus was successful in stopping them. Upon the Doh’s return, the Vaus II has been launched to make a pre-emptive strike on the Doh.
