Assassin’s Creed Heading To The Big Screen

Assassin’s Creed Heading To The Big Screen

None

Almost everyone who’s had the opportunity to see a movie based on a video game has left the theater with a craving for anti-depressants. Remember that Super Mario Bros. movie? So does your psychiatrist.

Well, it looks like fans of Assassin’s Creed will get several opportunities to feel depressed, because Sony Pictures has just closed a deal with Ubisoft that would allow them to create a franchise based on the game. Just so we’re clear, the word “franchise” means that they’ll be creating more than one movie.

Recently Ubisoft has been trying desperately to option their properties for film and television. Last year’s Prince of Persia movie (another real winner) grossed $335 million and the studio recently announced that Raving Rabbids would be turned into a television show on Nickelodeon. Ubi even put together an in-house production studio called “Ubisoft Motion Pictures” in order to retain some of the creative control over their properties.

Hopefully Assassin’s Creed won’t be as bad as I expect it to be, but I’m not holding my breath.
