Could the success of Super Mario Maker have opened the floodgates for a new trend? This week, Bandai Namco has filed a trademark for Pac-Man Maker . There’s no way it isn’t exactly what it sounds like. As with any trademark filing, there isn’t any supplemental information to go on. This trademark was part of a group which also included Code Vein , something that was fully announced the other day, and Storm Wings , an unknown entity, which lends credibility to the notion that something could be announced soon..
Bandai Namco is no stranger to experimenting with its old-school mascot. Pac-Man has been jumping genres for decades, with goofy platformers like Pac-Land as well as the infamous Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures . I’m also partial to Pac-Attack , a bizarre SNES-era puzzle game. Also, we can’t forget all the stuff the company did with Pac-Man on the DS, including Pac-Pix, Pan n’ Roll and even a little port of Pac-Man VS .
Pac-Man Maker is a logical derivative of Super Mario Maker . After all, other than Mario, what classic game could benefit from an open level creator more than Pac-Man? Arguments could be made, but it enough bells, whistles and silly gimmicks, a Pac-Man Maker could be a ton of fun.
