Brink May Not Be Broken Much Longer

None

If you’ve tried to play Brink online at all, you’ve probably noticed the ridiculous amount of lag and the texture-popping issues. Xbox 360 users have had it a little easier; there were a few patches to address these things. However, PS3 users haven’t been so lucky, since the PlayStation Store has been down since before Brink even launched.

Now that PSN is re-launching the PlayStation store, Splash Damage promises to finally bring all those little patches to the PS3. But that’s not all. They’ve been heavily testing the 360 version in online matches, and have been developing even more patchy goodness. They’re just waiting on approval from Microsoft, but the new Xbox patches should be available sometime this week. Since the PlayStation Store is scheduled to return on May 24, the patches should hit PS3s shortly thereafter.

For now, if you encounter lag problems, it’s recommended that you check the network connection strength of your opponents by pressing R1 on the PS3 or RB on the 360 when on the scoreboard. Player connections will show up as either red or green; red indicates a slow connection. Slower connections will cause your game to lag considerably.

Splash Damage realizes that these problems have been incredibly frustrating for players, and in order to make it up to them, Brink’s first DLC pack will be free. This DLC includes some more maps (which the game desperately needs) as well as some “additional content.” While the details on this “additional content” haven’t been released, it probably includes various clothing items or weapon skins. The free DLC is scheduled to release sometime in June.
