Capcom May Be Partnering with Square Enix for Street Fighter V

Something really weird happened at the Taipei Gameshow. Capcom demoed Street Fighter V again, and put the logo up against a blue background with a black silhouette. The bottom of that image said something strange: “© 2013 SQUARE ENIX All Rights Reserved.”

It seems unlikely that Capcom would simply steal a background image from Square Enix. That would be incredibly unprofessional. So does that mean that Capcom and Square Enix are teaming up? Square Enix has previously released the crossover fighting series Dissidia Final Fantasy on the PSP. Now that Marvel is no longer allowing Capcom to make games with its characters, maybe Square will be the next big crossover partner?

Many fans are saying that the background looked like something out of Darkstalkers . I disagree. Personally, I think the background looks like something out of Kingdom Hearts , specifically the Nightmare Before Christmas stage. The shadow to the right very obviously look like the crooked trees with some ornaments hanging on them. The buildings to the left are more generic but still give off a Kingdom Hearts vibe.

Even stranger, the image is copyrighted 2013. That’s two years ago. Whatever was in development would have had to be in development for quite a while, and if this somehow has something to do with Street Fighter V … let’s just say things might get a little weird. Not that I wouldn’t mind Cloud making an appearance as an SFV character. Just–it would be weird is all I’m saying.
