Dark Souls III Has Record-Breaking Opening Week

Dark Souls III Has Record-Breaking Opening Week

The Souls series occupies a rather interesting niche, if it can be considered a niche at all. On one hand, the series primarily appeals to the most hardcore gamers as its unforgiving difficulty, lack of instruction, open-ended story, and competitive PvP communities often come across as intimidating or unappealing to those who prefer more casual or lighthearted fare. On the other hand, the reputation of the Souls as having some of the most beautiful game worlds ever conceived and the most rewarding gameplay experiences available anywhere tempts gamers of various tastes.

Dark Souls and Bloodborne being instant classics, From Software fans and curious gamers all over the world were poised and ready for Dark Souls III, as strong early sales have proven. Dark Souls III broke all kinds of sales records, and has become the fastest selling title in Bandai Namco history. In fact, this was the most successful day-one launch Bandai Namco has ever seen. We know that Dark Souls III stayed at the top of UK charts its opening week, but we won’t know solid North American sales numbers until they’re published next month. If you’ve never played a Souls game before, Dark Souls III is a great place to start. Be warned, though, it’s also the hardest in the series.
