David Jaffe Working On Free-To-Play Shooter

None

You probably know David Jaffe as the creator of Twisted Metal. Well, it turns out he has another project up his sleeve, and it’s probably not what you would expect. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Jaffe said his new game was going to be a “free-to-play, browser-based, third-person shooter.”

Jaffe, like many others, is going to the free-to-play space because of the flexibility that it gives game developers. “I love the instant-on, I love the low-to-no barrier of entry to get all kinds of people to jump in and play,” he said. “I love the fact that you’re sitting there at lunch and can play for five minutes or you can get sucked in and play for three hours. You don’t have to sit there and power up your f****** machine and go through legal screens and load screens and load the game.”

That being said, Jaffe does have his reservations about the free-to-play space. He particularly dislikes micro-transactions and how they always seem to boil down to pay for power or pay to win. He says that most companies will tell you that’s not the case. But they are lying; it is. It’s good to hear a developer voicing the same concerns that the gaming populace is.

As of now we don’t really know much about Jaffe’s new project, but we are sure to hear more information soon.
