Blizzard isn’t exactly famous for getting their games out on time. In fact, if they’re famous for anything, it’s missing pretty much every deadline they’ve ever set. So these days, instead of continuously disappointing fans with missed launch dates, they’ve just done away with deadlines altogether. However, they were kind enough to give us an incredibly wide launch window for the upcoming Diablo sequel. Yesterday, during Activision Blizzard’s Q4 financial conference call, CEO Mike Morhaime said that Diablo III was expected to launch sometime in Q2 of 2012. That should place the release somewhere between April 1st and June 30th. But knowing Blizzard, it’ll launch sometime in July.
This type of behavior isn’t at all unusual for Blizzard’s team. The developer brought StarCraft 2 back into the lab several times before actually letting the public get their hands on it. As a fan, it’s a little frustrating to watch a developer continuously delay a game, but considering that Blizzard’s games are almost always impeccable, I can’t complain too much. By Josh Engen |
