E3 2016: Skylanders Are Coming to Netflix

It feels like just about everyone has a show on Netflix these days. There’s Daredevil , Fuller House , about a billion comedy specials… hell, my husband thinks it’s been a funny joke to play the Netflix Voltron show in the background while I burn the midnight oil editing E3 stories this week.

Well, now there’s one more Netflix original series on the way: Skylanders . Unlike Ubisoft, Activision is taking a modest approach to its filmmaking ambitions and starting off with an animated kids show on the telly. It will be called Skylanders Academy , and feature Skylanders doing, well, what Skylanders do; saving the world and taking out bad guys (there’s no guarantee Crash Bandicoot will be in the series, by the way – I just think the image is hilarious).

Skylanders Academy has already collected quite the voice cast. According to the press release, it includes Justin Long (“Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “Ask Me Anything”) as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale (“Phineas and Ferb,” “High School Musical”) as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks (“Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul”) as Eruptor and Norm MacDonald (“Saturday Night Live”) as Glumshanks. The showrunner is Eric Rogers, who is credited as previously involved in Futurama , though if IMDB is accurate, his primary position there was “assistant to the writers.”

Skylanders Academy premiers this fall on Netflix.
