Family Island is a 2019 farming game developed and published by Melsoft Games. While it doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel in terms of mobile games, Family Island puts the focus on the characters, giving it a unique angle that may be new to handheld players. The game remains free-to-play for Android and iOS gamers and continues to receive frequent updates from Melsoft Games.

As a farming game, you’ll find many mechanics from similar games in play here. You task your ‘workers’ with building up your island. Each build takes time to complete, but this can be circumvented by using magic rubies, purchased for real-life money.
Each task you give family members uses energy, which is something you have to keep an eye on. You replenish energy by growing crops to eat, essentially creating a self-fulfilling circle that allows you to survive on the island.
Family Island also offers plenty of quests to complete, with more added with each in-game event. These quests are usually character-focused, and can help level up buildings, unlock new decorations, and more!

While many of the classic mobile farm games focus on the building mechanic itself, Family Island takes another approach. By putting the main family in peril on an abandoned island, it creates a sense of urgency for you to help them build up their surroundings. It’s a unique take on the farm builder which actually makes the characters feel like an important part of the experience, rather than a tool to introduce mechanics to you (but they still do that, too).
- Bruce: Bruce is the father of the family, and takes the lead early in the game in terms of setting up the foundations of the island.
- Eva: Eva is the mother of the family, and is particularly used as a way to introduce the game’s monetization model to you as you learn the ropes.
- Timmy and Lizzy: Timmy and Lizzy are the children of the family, and are more used as comic relief than any meaningful gameplay addition. Still, they help their parents perform menial work while building up the island.

As of right now, Melsoft Games has yet to turn Family Island into a fully-fledged franchise. The developer has other mobile games that follow a similar formula, but there’s nothing that directly connects.
Given the popularity of the game, it’s unclear why the developer has yet to produce any sequels. It’s possible that the original continues to be successful for Melsoft Games, so it isn’t worth shaking up the status quo in a riskier sequel. Fans of Family Island still shouldn’t completely rule out the possibility of a sequel in the future.

What Are The Free Gold Keys in Family Island?
You obtain free gold keys in Family Island by completing a full chain of orders from the merchant, which can then be used to open chests around the island.
Taking part in events that the developer hosts can also reward gold keys from time to time. Unfortunately, there’s no cheat code that gives you free gold keys in Family Island.
Why Are There No Cheat Codes in Family Island?
It’s fairly standard practice for mobile games to make it as difficult as possible for players to cheat, and Family Island is no different.
You can buy magic rubies in the game which can help speed up your progress massively. If you were simply able to hand yourself magic rubies at will, no one would purchase them from the in-game store. This would put the health of the game in jeopardy, and no one wants that!
