Final Fantasy XIII Ignored in Japan

None

Final Fantasy XIII was finally released on the Xbox last week in Japan, and to almost no one’s surprise, it was largely ignored. Despite having a “value” price, bonus epilogue content, a new “easy” difficulty, and a bundled collector’s artbook, the game failed to make the list of top twenty games in its release week, and there has been absolutely no movement in Xbox 360 console sales either.

Microsoft and Square-Enix were really hoping that this special edition of Final Fantasy XIII would help energize the Xbox brand in Japan, but it looks like they will need something a little bit stronger than a re-release of a year-old game (XIII was released on the PlayStation 3 in 2009 for the Japanese region) to get gamers on board with the Xbox.
