First Games with Gold on Xbox One Revealed

First Games with Gold on Xbox One Revealed

The Xbox team have revealed a bunch of updates regarding both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles, and the Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has announced–among other things–the first Games with Gold for Xbox One.

In amongst the various other Xbox happenings that’ll be occurring in June, like the launch of the Kinect-less Xbox One (with a $100 price cut to boot) and Xbox 360 and Xbox One entertainment apps no longer requiring Xbox Live Gold (like Netflix and Hulu), Xbox Live Gold members for Xbox One now have access to the Xbox 360’s subscription-based service of receiving two free games a month, ranging from a catalogue of triple-A to indie titles.

The first free Games with Gold for Xbox One will launch with Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault . What’s more, a single Xbox Live Gold membership will now grant you access to the monthly free games for both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

We’re pleased to bring Games with Gold to Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One in June, ” Spencer wrote in the announcement. “ Members will have subscription-based access to free games ranging from top hits to breaking indie stars. The program will launch on Xbox One with Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault .

A single Gold membership will get you access to the free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 ,” he added.

In order to claim the free games on Xbox One, you’ll have to download them within the given window that they are available, starting in June. You’re also required to play the free games you’ve downloaded in order to keep them, presumably.

Please bare in mind that some free games later down the line may require the Kinect and/or hard drive in order to be played.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer that release on Xbox One back in mid-December, 2013. Halo: Spartan Assault is a top-down shooter spin-off that’s set with the Halo universe, specifically between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4 .

Since Halo: Spartan Assault’s worldwide on Steam back in early-April, Microsoft has confirmed that it has no plans to release further Halo titles to Steam –and by extension the PC–at this time
