Microsoft Unveils The Surface

Microsoft Unveils The Surface

None

Yesterday, Microsoft announced their brand new tablet, the Surface. The Surface come in two versions, one for Windows 8 Pro and one for Windows RT, and will include a full sized USB port, and a 16:9 HD screen.

Essentially, it’s looking like Microsoft is trying to market The Surface as a portable mini-PC than a traditional tablet. For example, the Surface comes with a cover that has a built in keyboard on it. That way you can type traditionally on the surface as well as with an onscreen input device. The cover keyboard also has a two button track pad as well. This, together with a built in kickstand, makes the Surface look like the world’s smallest laptop.

This is all well and good, but what does this mean for gaming? Well, if you remember, E3, the Xbox will be able to connect up with tablet devices via Xbox SmartGlass. If these devices really will let you control your games as Microsoft suggests, then perhaps this will make things easier for keyboard and mouse enthusiasts. If the Surface does have a full USB port, then you can easily hook up any old mouse to it, and if the Surface can control a shooter, then keyboard and mouse controls have become a console reality.
