Japanese news source, Nikkei, is reporting that Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. According to an IGN article covering the story, the hard data comes from Enterbrain Inc., which does independent market research in Japan (much like NPD does in the U.S.). More than 3 million copies of the game have sold in Japan, another 4.5 million copies to North American consumers, and just short of 3 million units have been sold in Europe.
