Official, Kinect Will Cost

Official, Kinect Will Cost

None

While Project Natal got its official new name, Kinect, and a release date, November 4th, at this year’s E3, gamers were still left wondering how much Microsoft’s new motion controller hardware was going to set them back. Thankfully, Kinect has finally received its official price of $149.99 thanks to a pre-order listing on Microsoft’s own store. This would seem to substantiate all of the other online listings found last week from a variety of sources such as Amazon and GameStop that Microsoft labeled as “placeholder” price listings.

If it seems odd that Microsoft would begin taking pre-orders for Kinect without officially announcing its price point, that’s because there is a catch. While their official pre-order price is listed as $149.99, these pre-orders are still being protected by a “pre-order price guarantee”. This means that if the price would happen to end up being less than $149.99, anyone who pre-orders the Kinect would get it for the lower price. Until we get an official announcement out of Microsoft, I suppose we’ll just have to go on the assumption that the price will stay at $149.99, unless the price on the pre-order listing reduces.
