Official Reddit App Comes to Xbox One

Official Reddit App Comes to Xbox One

As announced via Xbox Wire on Monday, August 18, Microsoft’s Xbox One will be getting its own official Reddit app, which is now available on the console for all to use.

Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb took a moment to outline what exactly the app itself has to offer. Entitled “ReddX”, you’ll now be able to browse through subreddits while playing games on your Xbox One.

At Xbox, community is a big part of who we are. And we know at reddit, community makes up the very core of the service there, too. The launch of ReddX on Xbox One is exciting because it combines the intense community involvement we’ve come to know on both platforms with the unique capabilities offered by Xbox One, ” Major Nelson wrote.

ReddX can be Snapped to the side of your TV while you carry on to do other things on your Xbox One, like gaming or browsing other apps. According to Major Nelson, ReddX provides a similar experience to that of the official website, with the addition of having unique media achievements to unlock, which are said to be named after popular memes.

Furthermore, Xbox LIVE members in both the US and Canada will be able to browse through text, images, GIFs and videos–just like you would on the official website.

Using ReddX also allows you to upvote or downvote a thread with just the touch of a button, as well as easily add your comments using your Xbox One controller, media remote or Xbox SmartGlass on your smartphone, tablet or laptop. If you find an image that’s just too good to pass over, ReddX lets you save a photo to your profile or set any image as the background for your ReddX app, ” Major Nelson added.

We’ll bring you more news on upcoming apps for Microsoft’s Xbox One should further information reach our ears. In the meantime, you can watch Major Nelson’s announcement of ReddX via the embedded video below.
