Phoenix Wright Holds Court In Theaters

None

A Capcom blog post yesterday revealed the truth behind early rumors of a big-screen adaptation of one of its games. Yes, Phoenix Wright, the most enduring star of the hit Ace Attorney (in Japan: Gyakuten Saiban) series of courtroom drama games, will be the protagonist in this Takashi Miike-helmed film.

Sets from the live-action film were exposed earlier this week, given some credence by vague statements from director Miike. The stars include Hiroki Narimiya as the eponymous ace attorney, Phoenix Wright; Mirei Kiritani as his assistant, spirit medium Maya Fey; and Takumi Saito as his rival, prosecutor Miles Edgeworth.

Miike’s other directing credits include the ultra-violent Ichi the Killer and Sukiyaki Western Django , the latter a collaboration with famed director Quentin Tarantino. Few details on the movie itself, beyond the cast and director, have been released. However, the initial shots taken of the set show a familiar lakeside shack that Ace Attorney fans will likely recognize from the first game’s climactic case, “Turnabout Goodbyes.”

The movie is tentatively scheduled for a Japanese release in the spring of 2012.
