Rare Replay Won’t Be Coming to the Wii U

Twitter had a bit of a meltdown, recently. After the release of Minecraft for the Wii U, a few twitter users started bugging Microsoft about other games that might find their way to Nintendo’s console (apparently forgetting that Minecraft has always been a multi-platform affair). Some wishful thinker asked about Rare Replay , and Microsoft responded thusly: “Suggest it to the great folks at @RareLtd.” Then the internet exploded.

It was all starting to make sense. Maybe we could see Rare Replay on the Wii U. After all, several titles included in the collection were originally released on Nintendo consoles, and Phil Spencer has been talking about welcoming Nintendo games on Microsoft consoles lately. Could a strange, mutually beneficial camaraderie be forming between Nintendo and Microsoft? Could this all be pointing toward a Wii U release of this incredible collection? No. Our dreams were crushed by Rare today, when it sent out its own tweet , reading: “Lots of Qs about Wii U! But #RareReplay’s exclusive to Xbox One, and we’re hard at work on Sea of Thieves. Appreciate the enthusiasm though!” Case closed, folks; move along.
