RUMOR: Final Fantasy XIII-3 Planned?

None

After the release of Final Fantasy XIII, Square said they weren’t sure there would ever be a Final Fantasy XV. While this made many fans speculate that the long loved JRPG franchise was dying, it turns out that Square was just going to take some time off to develop spin-offs and true sequels. We all know that Final Fantasy XIII-2 will soon be released, but new evidence shows that a Final Fantasy XIII-3 might be in the works, even though Square Enix has no idea how well Final Fantasy XIII-2 will do on the market.

Recently, Corporation Service Company has registered the domain FinalFantasyXIII-3.com. While the registry does not specifically mention Square Enix, CSC has been known to register and hold over domain names for Square Enix in the past. This could mean one of several things: 1) Square-Enix is working on Final Fantasy XIII-3, and Final Fantasy XIII will officially be the longest running numbered title in the Final Fantasy universe. 2) Square Enix is trying to cover their butts after seeing the horrible complications the ModernWarfare3.com scandal brought Activision. 3) CSC decided to register FinalFantasyXIII-3.com for the heck of it.

Personally, I hope this is a case of scenario 2. Though I like Final Fantasy as much as the next JRPG fanatic, it’s never a good idea to start development on a sequel before you see how well its predecessor does. That’s just a recipe for poor game design.
