RUMOR: PS3 “K” Model Lacking HD Via Component Cables?

RUMOR: PS3 “K” Model Lacking HD Via Component Cables?

None

New consoles replace old consoles all the time, and many times you don’t even know it’s happening. Your PS3 Slim isn’t the same console as your buddy’s PS3 Slim that he bought a year ago. It’s just how the console business works.

A new PS3 Slim model “K” is shipping to retailers this week, and a rumor has cropped up saying it has one less graphical option than older models. Supposedly, the new model will require users to use an HDMI cable to play games or watch movies in high definition. Previously, users could get HD visuals from component cables, but the rumor says they will be unable to on K models.

The rumor comes courtesy of a memo sent to GameStop. It asked GameStop employees to offer HDMI cables to people purchasing PS3s, and to explain to them how you need an HDMI cable to get an HD output. This will “drive add on sales,” or in layman’s terms: “trick people into spending twenty dollars for their HDMI cable when they could get it for two bucks off of Amazon.”
