S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Canceled, Studio Shut Down

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Canceled, Studio Shut Down

None

News came in yesterday that developer GSC Game World has shut down, taking the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 project with it. According to an update on the game’s Facebook page, GSC was not able to reach an agreement with investors. The studio had been working on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 without pay since December 2011 while they searched for investors to fund the project. Unfortunately, they never found any.

The guys at GSC are moving on as a new company, Vostok Games. Their first project will be a free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter entitled Survarium. The game will be set in a post-apocalyptic future, which feels kind of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-ish, I suppose. It is expected to be released sometime in 2013.

It’s too bad S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 never found the funding to get off the ground. Frankly, I wouldn’t give up if I were GSC or Vostok Games. There’s always Kickstarter, after all.
